THERE IS a general perception that anybody walking down a busy street in any major town in Co. Wexford is likely to encounter a writer. We are thinking of the historically minded here.

However, not only are the local history writers abundant in number, but the fiction scribes and the poets are in the ascendancy, especially in the general area of Enniscorthy.

Exiled Enniscorthy poet and writer, Eamonn Wall, has approved the contributions of thirty-seven towers of talent for 'The Scaldy Detail', and they all belong to the fiction, short-story and poetry brigade.

This is not a publication to be critical of. It merely presents each contributors work. It is a matter for the individual whether they like their style or not! Simple as that.

However, I have no problem, whatsoever, in congratulating everybody on being published, many for the first time, others have been there before, the special list includes Mogue Doyle, Liz Mellon, Larry Kirwan, Katie Donovan, Andy Doyle, Pat Maddock, Betty Thompson, Dervla Tierney, Mary O'Brien, Andrew Caldicott, James Liddy, Angie Fox, Drucilla Wall, Orna Ross, Patrick Kehoe, Denis Collins, Norman Darlington, John W. Sexton, Carole MacRury, Gertrude Sheahan, M.J. O'Reilly, J.P. Barnes, Maria Clifford, Paul O'Reilly, Niall Wall, Sylvia Cullen, P.J. Nolan, John B. Atkinson, Hugh Kelly, Margaret Galvin, Eamonn Wall, John Kelly, Michael Ryan, Margaret Breen, Philip Quirke and Philip Casey.

Enterprising editor, Eamonn Wall, a distinguished and popular modern day poet in his own right and domiciled in Nabraska, United States, is the editor of this fine publication. This publication is pleasant and promising and, in my view, for what it is worth, it is the catalyst for more exciting essays and works to come. Warmly welcomed and an invitation for all budding novelists, poets and short-story writers. Get on that pen now!

The Scaldy Detail 2007, edited by Eamonn Wall, paperback, 108 pages, no illustrations, ISSN 20090587, published by Scallta Media for Enniscorthy Launch Pad, with support from Wexford County Council. Further details from www.scallta.com or www.elaunchpad.org.
